Short read: Streets Ahead, Treats Ahead…
Long read: Salivating? You should be. Food, glorious food. Today. And in the “today’s” of those who went before us. Which is by way of saying, the walk is appetised literally and figuratively. Literally, because the glorious Borough Market and its offerings loom large on this walk and Guide Ann (she’s an embodied tutelary spirit of the London foodie scene) will be directing you, making lots of recommendations, etc. And figuratively because of the historical hors-d’oeuvres, many of them funny, some of them shocking, all of them piquant, that season the walk. Yum Yum.
Epicurean, Gourmets’, Foodies’ London takes place at 10 am on Saturday, June 8th. The meeting point is just outside the Fish Street Hill exit of Monument Tube. Guide Ann will be holding up copies of the legendary white London Walks leaflet and sporting her Blue Badge.
As long as we’re at it, here are links to the other Foodies London Walks Ann does. Any of Ann’s Foodies London Walks can of course be booked privately.

“Government cheese! Government cheese! Warranted wholesome and flavoured to please.”
“Of all the thankless, soul-destroying jobs in a rich mediaeval British kitchen – including scullion, washpot and drudge – there can have been few worse than that of the turnspit or turnbroach, the person (usually a boy) charged with rotating the roasting spits. ‘In olden times,’ wrote the great biographer John Aubrey, ‘the poor boys did turn the spits, and licked the dripping pans.'” Bee Wilson
“Even jaded Londoners find these London Walks a source of astonishing gems of information about the city in which they live.” Daily Mail, Top London Treats
If you can’t catch the regularly scheduled, just turn up, public Foodies’ London walks Ann conducts, do think about booking one (or more) of them as a private walk. You go private you can have whichever walk you want whenever you want it – rather than having to cleave to the public walks schedule. We’ll suit your convenience, tailor it to your requirements.
It goes without saying that a private Foodie’s London walk makes a brilliant – and unusual – Christmas or birthday gift for a partner, family member, friend or colleague who champions the stuff (likes fine food, likes fine food finds). Just give Fiona or Peter or Mary or Niamh a ring on 020 7624 3978 – or email us at [email protected] – and we’ll set it up for you and make it happen. Memories make us rich.
“If this were a golf tournament every name on the Leader Board would be a London Walks guide”
Lin Berry –
Very interesting guided tour with not too much walking – all took place in close proximity of The Thames [starting on the north bank and finishing on the south bank]. Is certainly “Food for Thought!”
Julie Ann Andreshak –
I’ve been booking this walk with Ann for over ten years, now. Ann never fails to deliver a professional, informative and mouth-watering tour for my student groups before I let them loose in Borough Market. Ann’s ability to tell the story of food in London through the ages is not to be missed!
